Friends of the Poor Walk 2016

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is having a “Friends of the Poor Walk”.  This district wide event is a fundraising, fun event designed to gather us together, collecting pledges as we walk a two mile scenic Des Moines River route.  We will have live music, a disc golf contest, door prizes, raffles and a catered picnic by Taste! To Go.   Each walker designates where they want their donations to go — local conference, district or national.  We have a Carlisle, Iowa team walking for our area.  The funds raised are used for emergency needs, Thanksgiving baskets, and monthly food pantry feedings. Last month we helped folks with over $400.00 in needs (medical, transportation, food, and utilities).   Please come to walk, make a pledge or volunteer.  We will have fun! Please pre-register with Bob, our president, or with Moe, the walk coordinator (phone 778-3596).  You may also register online at http://svdpdsm.org/news-events/friends-of-the-poor-walkrun/ and pledge a walker if you want your donation to go to the Carlisle team.  T-shirts will be $10.00 and they are available two weeks ahead.  Help us win the “Big Shoe” traveling trophy awarded to the top three parishes/conferences.
