Please attend a presentation and discussion of Pope Francis’ recent letter on Care For Our Common Home: Laudate Deum (Praise God). Ken and Rita Bresnan will give a summary of the points Pope Francis made about our environment and the steps that need to be taken to save the earth, our gift from God.
Laudate Deum is an apostolic exhortation by Pope Francis, published on October 4, 2023. It was released on the 2023 Feast of St. Francis of Assisi as a follow-up to his 2015 encyclical Laudato Si.’
About Ken and Rita Bresnan
Ken and Rita are members of St. Thomas Aquinas parish in Indianola. They have four children and six grandchildren. They have presented numerous workshops on Laudato Si to educate adults and students on the meaning and importance of this encyclical .
Ken worked as a parish outreach liaison for Catholic Charities of Des Moines, including accompanying Bishop Pates as he introduced Laudato Si’ to the diocese and helping people understand the themes of Catholic social teaching. He is a member of the Diocese Global Advocacy Team; a member of the St. Thomas Creation Care Team; served as mayor of Indianola; and was an Indianola school board member.
Rita is a retired music teacher. She taught music for fifty years at all grade levels. She is a member of the Indianola Sustainability Committee; a member of the Catholic Climate Covenant and the Citizen’s Climate Lobby; served as a delegate to 2023 Continental Synod; Founder and leader of the St. Thomas Creation Care Team; and has worked on local, state, and national elections.
